Born in Argentina, Cristina studied Computer Science at the University of Buenos Aires. After joining IBM Argentina, she held different technical and administrative positions until being asked to collaborate in the creation of the IBM Latin American Translation Center, which pioneered the implementation of online translations by means of IBM mainframe equipment. She traveled to Montreal, the site of a pilot IBM Worldwide Online Translation Center, where she started to acquire her experience in Software Customization. Over time, this discipline became one of the main translation fields and is currently known as SW Localization. During her years at the IBM LATC, she worked as Editor and Administrative Coordinator, and later as Technical Support Supervisor. In this position, she was also responsible for the training of freelance translators in the different software applications used at the time for all the translation and editing tasks.

In 1984, Cristina moved to the US with her husband, Eduardo Camihort, who was assigned to the IBM International System Center in Poughkeepsie, New York, as a System Engineer. At that time, she concentrated in the teaching of Spanish at High School level and started her own small company, Trans-Ar, Inc., to provide software localization services and translation of related material. After an early retirement from IBM, Cristina and Eduardo work now in the family business as President and Technical Support Manager, respectively. Trans-Ar, Inc. offers a wide range of translation services, web-based database design and programming, and Software Localization and CAT Tools training for individuals and organizations.

Cristina´s favorite hobbies are her tasks as webmaster of MedTrad, a forum specialized in Medicine and Translation, and the DTP and electronic publishing of the forum's official publication, Panace@, a free electronic magazine with original texts about different aspects of translation and language in the area of medicine and related sciences.
